What is a HLC area chart

HLC area charts can be seen as a combination of line and area charts. Similar to the first, they use lines to display price movements. Area charts shade in the space underneath the price line to show how significantly the price has changed, but HLC area charts shade in the distance between high, low, and close prices — the three lines you can see on the chart.

The best way to understand them is by comparing HLC area charts with standard lines and area charts. Let's move on and see how they differ and what can help you with.

HLC area charts vs area charts vs line charts

Area charts are a variation of standard line charts only that the space underneath the price line until the X (horizontal) axis is shaded in to help you better read changes.
