The teaser of the much-awaited movie 'Ramayana' released earlier this month. While movie enthusiasts eagerly await more updates regarding the upcoming film, investors focus on the shares of Prime Focus Studio, the production house backing the film.
The shares of Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studio have surged nearly 98 percent in the past three months. After the release of the teaser on July 3, the shares of the company had rallied nearly 7 percent to hit a record high of Rs 175 apiece on July 4.
The sharp rise in the share price was further fueled after Ranbir Kapoor reportedly invested Rs 20 crore in the Prime Focus Studio. The company had approved a preferential issue of over 46 crore shares. According to an exchange filing, actor Ranbir Kapoor was one of the proposed allotees, who aimed to acquire 12.5 lakh shares of the company. Moneycontrol couldn’t independently verify if the actor has acquired the shares as of yet.
Prime Focus was founded by Namit Malhotra in 1997 in a garage in Mumbai. The company acquired visual effects house Double Negative (DNEG) in 2014, which later won Academy Awards for its work on TENET, Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, bringing its tally of Oscars to eight. Prime Focus is known for the visual effects, animation, production and post-production.

"This is a cultural movement for every Indian around the world. With Ramayana, we’re not just retelling history; we’re introducing our legacy to the world. Bringing together the finest global talent allows us to tell this story with authenticity, emotion, and state-of-the-art cinematic innovation. We’ve seen Ramayana portrayed before — but this version reimagines its landscapes, creatures, and battles with the scale and splendour they deserve. As Indians, this is our truth. Now, it will be our gift to the world," Malhotra said about the movie.
Ramayana will be released in two parts. The first part will be released on Diwali 2026, while the second part will be released on Diwali 2027. Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Rama in the movie, and Sai Pallavi will play the role of Sita. Yash, who commands a massive pan-India fanbase and also serves as co-producer, takes on the role of Ravana.
The teaser of the movie generated significant buzz over social media. Fans are also excited to hear what legendary music composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer compose for the movie.
