Angel One's AWS resources compromised in data leakage; shares fall sharply

The shares of Angel One tumbled nearly 4 percent in afternoon trade on February 28 after the company announced, citing inputs from dark-web monitoring partner, that some of its Amazon Web Services (AWS) resources were compromised in a data leakage.

In an exchange filing, Angel One said its dark-web monitoring partner on February 27 informed in an email about a data leakage due to unauthorized access. Upon investigation, Angel One discovered that some if its Amazon Web Services (AWS) resources were compromised.

The company said it has immediately changed related credentials of its AWS cloud and other applications, to prevent further data leakage.

Angel One added that it has engaged an external forensic partner to investigate the impact of the security breach and to conduct a thorough root cause analysis. "We have verified that this breach does not have any impact on clients' securities, funds and credentials; and all our client accounts remain secure," the company said.

Angel One added that it is continuing to investigate the incident further to assess potential impact. "We will take utmost care to handle concerns of our clients and take actions to safeguard their interest," the exchange filing said.

Angel One shares were trading at Rs 2,118.7, as seen at 12.48 pm on February 28. However, the stock made some recovery later to close over 1 percent lower at Rs 2,167.95.The fall in the stock's price was also fuelled by a market-wide downturn which took Sensex down by over 1,400 points. The bechmark index closed in the deep red at around 73,198.10. Nifty 50 meanwhile closed nearly 2 percent lower at 22,124.70.
