Exclusive: Nick Edgeley Steps Down as Monex Europe’s CEO
Nick Edgeley has stepped down from the role of Chief Executive at Monex Europe Limited, the UK division of Monex Europe Holdings, and Michael Quinn has succeeded him in the top role, Finance Magnates learned exclusively. Quinn will also head Monex Europe Markets Limited, the investment firm unit, as the CEO.
Edgeley founded Schneider Foreign Exchange in 2006, which was acquired by Monex in 2012, resulting in a rebranding. He is separating from the firm after 18 years “to pursue new opportunities outside the company.” Under his leadership, the company experienced remarkable growth, evolving from a small team of four individuals to a global enterprise with operations spanning five international offices and a workforce of 300 employees.
Commenting on the departure of Edgeley, Mauricio Naranjo, global CEO of Monex Group, said: “His unwavering commitment as a leader of a high-performance team and navigating the complexities of the global marketplace has played a crucial role in driving success.”
An Internal Promotion
Michael Quinn, CEO of Monex Europe
Quinn's appointment in the apex role came with an internal promotion. He joined the company in 2010 as a Senior Trader and was promoted to Group Trading Manager in mid-2022. The company highlighted that he has been integral to several strategic enhancements across the business.
“My number one priority is cementing the commercial strategy and direction of the business to ensure continued significant growth in this ever-changing and evolving landscape,” Quinn told Finance Magnates.
"As we look to the next chapter of our evolution, my mandate is to leverage the significant resources within the company, and evolve and unify the business commercially, with a focus on long-term value creation for our shareholders."
A Broad Change in Leadership
Magda Gonzalez, COO at Monex Europe
While Quinn took charge of the UK unit, the company also promoted Magda Gonzalez to the role of Chief Operating Officer, serving alongside the international CEO team. Gonzalez joined Monex’s parent division in Mexico City in 2006 and relocated to Monex Europe in 2013. In 2016, she became the Chief Financial Officer of the business.
Furthermore, the company promoted James Bennett to the Trading Director role and Neil Maffey to the Sales Director role, highlighting that they were collectively responsible for generating over £160m of revenue.
“The appointments of James and Neil are a natural progression,” Quinn added. “The appointments mark a new chapter for Monex, as we position ourselves for sustained growth and enhanced market presence in the UK and beyond.”
