0x (ZRX) is a protocol that facilitates the decentralized exchange of Ethereum-based tokens and assets. Launched in 2017, the 0x protocol enables developers to build their own cryptocurrency exchanges, known as relayers, which are powered by smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. The 0x token (ZRX) is used for governance over the protocol’s upgrade system, which allows its underlying smart contracts to be replaced and improved over time. The ZRX token also serves as a staking token for market liquidity providers. The 0x protocol aims to drive interoperability among decentralized applications (dApps) that incorporate exchange functionality.
