Case: 3:17-cv-00121

As QCOM marks its 40th anniversary, the company is focusing heavily on disrupting the PC market with Snapdragon-powered laptops. According to SVP Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm’s new mission is to bring the efficiency and always-connected performance of mobile chips into Windows devices — with upcoming chip launches expected at the Snapdragon Summit in September.

“The PC market has had the least innovation... we’re changing that,” Katouzian said.
Meanwhile, the company is also investing in:
  • Longer battery life and integrated connectivity
  • Deeper AI integration in chips
  • Stronger presence in premium-tier PCs
  • Close collaboration with Microsoft for Copilot+ Windows
But Qualcomm Is Also Paying for Past Practices

While future bets play out, Qualcomm recently settled with investors for claims tied to anticompetitive practices and weak financial controls — issues that first surfaced in 2017.

📌 Key milestones from the case:
  • Jan 17, 2017: FTC filed a complaint over licensing abuse
  • Jan 19, 2017: QCOM dropped 18.3%
  • Jan 23, 2017: Investors filed a class action lawsuit
  • Recent: Qualcomm reached a settlement with shareholders
