Rivian bought by Volkswagen

Is Volkswagen AG right or wrong in doing this? They plan to invest $5 billion in Rivian Automotive Inc., becoming its largest stakeholder in a strategic move aimed at strengthening its position in the electric vehicle (EV) market. I'm not sure I like the cars, but it is what it is.
