Inflation and high interest rates are starting to show problems for the Australian economy. In July, mass layoffs were reported. As a result, the Australian dollar exchange rate fell.
On Friday (19/8/2022), the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that during July there were 40,900 layoffs. This is the first time this has happened since October 2021.
This is the first time the number of people working has decreased since October 2021, after the easing of lockdowns due to the Covid-19 Delta variant at the end of 2021.
