Aon unveils reinsurance leadership changes following Neal's pivot to AIG
(The Insurer) - Aon has unveiled a raft of promotions within its Reinsurance Solutions unit following the news on Wednesday that former Lloyd's CEO John Neal will not take up his previously announced post as CEO of global reinsurance and instead join AIG as president.
Alfonso Valera has been named CEO, international for reinsurance, with responsibility for the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC) regions.
He most recently served as reinsurance co-CEO for the EMEA region, prior to which he was CEO and general manager of Aon Re Iberia.
In addition, Steve Hofmann has been named Americas CEO for Aon's reinsurance unit, with a remit covering North America and Latin America. Hofmann had served as U.S. CEO for reinsurance at Aon since October last year. Prior to this, he was co-president for U.S. reinsurance.
Aon's reinsurance unit has also appointed George Attard as global head of strategy and Tomas Novotny as chairman, international.
Attard most recently served as reinsurance CEO for APAC. Based in Singapore, he has worked across strategy and client engagement in the region for 17 years.
Novotny also previously held the role of co-CEO of EMEA alongside Valera, as well as chairman for Central and Eastern Europe.
The promotions follow the news on Wednesday that Neal has been appointed president of AIG.
Neal announced in January that he was stepping down as Lloyd's CEO (a role he assumed in October 2018) to join Aon as CEO of global reinsurance and global chair of climate solutions.
The broker confirmed to The Insurer in May that Neal would begin his tenure on September 1. He would have reported to Andy Marcell, who last month was named CEO of Global Solutions.
Neal's move to AIG instead has come with the support of Aon management.
